VHF

ELECTRICAL / ELECTRONICS - VHF

A VHF (very high frequency) radio transceiver is a must-have for all boaters. These radios allow you to listen and talk on the frequencies used by the Coast Guard, commercial ships, fishing vessels and all other recreational vessels.

The VHF radio can be used to call for help in an emergency or to confer with captains of other vessels in passing situations where right-of-way issues might arise, or simply to chat with fellow boaters about the weather or the amenities of a nearby harbour.

Truelight Marine can advise you on the purchase of the correct VHF that is best suited for your vessel, and for the budget that you agree. The correct positioning and installation of the unit are also key to it’s proper functioning on your craft.

With this done, you are ready to start talking and listening to what is going on in the marine community around you. Take the time to learn proper radio protocol, as VHF radio use is regulated and certain activities are prohibited and certain channels have designated uses.

Radio licences
The licensing of maritime radio systems is regulated by the Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1926. Every ship that has a radio system installed must also carry a Ship Radio Licence.

While owners of recreational craft, e.g., yachts, sail cruisers, motor cruisers, etc., are not required to install a radio system, if they opt to install a radio system on a voluntary basis, they must also carry a Ship Radio Licence on board.

Every vessel that is equipped with radio equipment must also carry at least one qualified marine radio operator. Details of Ships Radio Licence Training Course Providers are available from the Maritime Safety Directorate in the Department of Transport.

If you have any enquiries relating to the VHF Radio for your vessel, please call us on (087) 280 7028 or e-mail us at info@truelightmarine.ie.

Relying on Technology teaser

Relying on Technology

Don't rely solely on technology.
One of the advantages that technology gave to this world is that it made things to be done efficiently and without any delay. With new and exciting technology being developed all the time, standards of training can sometimes be overlooked

It is just important to always bear in mind that if the technology fails, do you think you can do the job for yourself.

You might forget what you have learned if you depend so much on high end technologies right now, and at the very time you need it the most, you may find safety training will get you home safe when technology lets you down

Truelight Marine offer training and service programs, available to prepare you for any situation that you can find yourself in.
